My mother and I usually go to Mass on Saturdays. I have been going to Mass ever since I was in kindergarten at Saint Catherine of Siena School. I was baptized at Saint Catherine’s when I was little. Going to church every weekend made me realize the importance of my religion and how it positively affects my life. When I received my First Communion in second grade, I realized that God is with us in spirit and that He will always be there for us. All we need to do is ask. As I got older, I became an altar server and have been assisting at Masses since I was in the fourth grade at Saint Catherine of Siena School. I enjoy helping the priest and listening to the weekly message in his homily. I have, to this date, served with over four priests. They include: Father Leo Asuncion, Father Sean Murray, Father Clarence Zamora, and now, Father Anthony Le. Each of them has taught me something different and special in attending Mass and learning to be a better Catholic.
So far, there have been many joyous times in my life, such as my eighth grade graduation and when I was accepted to De La Salle High School. There have also been sad times for me. During these times, especially when things are difficult, I feel comfort in going to church, praying, and thinking about how God has blessed me. What I have learned through the years is that it is important to stand up for yourself and for others, if they are unable to do so.
I am now involved in the Youth Group and will be receiving Confirmation this year. I really enjoy being involved at Saint Catherine’s with all of its activities. The parishioners, Deacon Albert Dizon, Deacon Dave Holland, and Father Anthony all make this church a very special place for me. The lessons I have learned in church, in school, and from my family regarding my walk with God will only help me get stronger in my faith as I get older.
