Dear Community of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish and School,
The recent discovery of sexual abuse and cover-up in the Church brings about pain, shame, and great sadness. Our
Bishop has joined many voices in the Church called forth for solidarity in prayer and spiritual sacrifices as we ask God to renew the Church and console and heal the victims and their families. In response to this call, we will do the following:
A Novena to Saint Joseph from September 6-14, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. This novena to Saint Joseph will include: The Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, and Prayers to Saint Joseph. We will start on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Church.
A prayer to Saint Joseph will be in every Mass, as part of the Prayer of the Faithful, from September 6 to September 14, both in English and Spanish.
A prayer to Saint Joseph will be in the bulletin as well.
A Day of Prayer and Penance on September 14th (Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross). Our bishop has asked on September 14 all the priests of the Diocese of Oakland to fast, pray, and perform works of mercy. We would like to invite you to join us if you are capable.
Also, on
Friday, September 14, we will have Holy Hours with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament as usual from
12-5:00 p.m. to pray for the victims of abuse and scandal, and for the reform of the Church. We will conclude with a
Holy Mass and Veneration of the Cross at 5:30 pm.
I urge all ministry leaders and parishioners to prayerfully take part in these spiritual exercises for the well-being of the Church and the healing of the victims and their families.
